Innovative modular joint system for dexterous lightweight robots with flexible fluidic servo actuators

LeRos-F

Concept, design and development of modular lightweight robots intended for use in human-centred robotics are the focus of the LeRoS – F project.

To accomplish the requisites for safe operations in direct interaction with humans a novel inherently compliant fluidic actuator is being developed: Rotary Elastic Chambers – Actuator. The actuator is of revolute type and thus suitable for compact robotic modules of different sizes and power. A set of sensors is integrated in each module:an angular position sensor, pressure sensors and a torque sensor. Hydraulic and pneumatic realisations are under development.

This research is a part of a joint project performed in cooperation with the Institute for Applied Computer Science, Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe (IAI FZK) under financial support provided by the AiF - the German Federation of Industrial Research Associations "Otto von Guericke".
